TRANSCRIPTIONS / TRANSPOSITIONS
Whether you need sheet music for an upcoming audition or gig or simply want it for your own personal use, I can create a clean copy for you. I can create clear versions of 16 and 32-bar audition cuts, transpose existing music into the right key for you, create new or adjusted piano accompaniment, or create custom 'by-ear' arrangements in case you can't find the sheet music for a particular piece. I can make lead sheets, piano/vocal scores, and more.
Below are excerpts from two custom piano-vocal transcriptions that I did recently.
I've worked frequently with singers in the pop and musical theater genres, with recent clients being cast in major theater touring companies and being accepted into some of New York's most prestigious performing arts schools. I can work with singers on interpretation and selectiong the right material for his or her voice. In addition, I can provide audition and performance materials such as:
- transposed vocal scores (see TRANSCRIPTIONS / TRANSPOSITIONS)
- accompaniment recordings for easy home practice
- audition recordings (for submitting when there is not a live audition)
I'm an experienced piano accompanist (having grown up in a family of singers). I can sight read, play by ear, improvise and feel comfortable playing pretty much any genre, from classical to jazz, pop, musical theater (traditional and contemporary), blues, country and more. I am also a proficient guitarist and can switch instruments if/when need be.
Below are two samples of my accompaniment - playing the blues classic "Stormy Monday" with singer/songwriter Laura Thomas, and accompanying the Zamir Chorale singing Steve Cohen's composition "Netzach Yisrael".
Having received my B.M. in Composition, I am comfortable doing arranging work - both vocal and instrumental - for small and large ensembles. While my most frequently heard orchestrations are arrangements of my original songs (as performed by my group, The Well Groomed Orchestra), I do have the opportunity to arrange for other composers and artists from time to time. Below is a sample of my arranging and scoring work.

I teach students of all ages, from beginners to advanced students. Though I often teach from my home studio on the Upper West Side, in-home lessons can be arranged. Please email me for rates.
In addition to teaching the fundamentals of technique, reading music and other 'staples', I specialize in teaching improvisation, music theory and playing in popular styles (jazz, rock et all).
